Our Mission Statement

Tambe Global’s charitable purpose is to improve health outcomes and empower healthcare workers in low-resource settings, particularly in Pacific Island Countries. We achieve this by providing education, resources, equipment, and training in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and other vital clinical, educational, and diagnostic interventions to promote health, prevent disease, and reduce mortality for underserved populations.

Tambe - To Lift Up

Ni-Vanuatu rural medicine specialist Dr Lawrence Boe is the sole doctor on his home island of Ambae, 300km north of Vanuatu's capital city Port Vila. Dr Boe was a participant on our first-ever PEARLS ultrasound course, and has grown into one of our core PEARLS faculty members.

'Tambe' in Dr Boe's native tribal language means 'to lift up' - a perfect description of the ultrasound training programs we conduct. And our vision is that clinicians worldwide have access to life-changing technology such as point-of-care ultrasound to enhance the care they provide for patients. So there you have it - Tambe Global.

Board Members

Jonathan Henry

Dr Jonathan Henry is an Emergency Physician based in Melbourne, and is a founding board member of Tambe Global. He is deeply involved in point-of-care ultrasound education throughout both Australia and the Pacific, holds a Fellowship of the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE), and is a member of the ACEM Global Emergency Care Committee (GECCo).

Lewis McLean

Dr Lewis Mclean is an Intensive Care Specialist undertaking a PhD in critical care echocardiography, and is a founding board member of Tambe Global. Beyond ultrasound education he maintains broader collaborative involvement in global critical care and capacity-building through RECSI and ANZICS.

Jo McCann

Ms Jo McCann is a practicing sonographer based in New Zealand, and a founding board member of Tambe Global. She is the current President of the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM) and has travelled extensively over the past decade to teach ultrasound to sonographers and clinicians throughout the Pacific Islands and beyond.
